AAO launches search for new CEO; appoints interim CEO
Current CFO Richard Jones has been named interim CEO throughout the search.
The American Academy of Optometry (AAO) announced Thursday that it has formed a search committee to identify candidates for a new chief executive officer (CEO).
In the interim, Richard Jones, AAO’s current chief financial officer (CFO) and deputy chief executive, will assume the role of CEO of the organization. As a member of AAO’s leadership team for nearly 10 years, Jones has more than 20 years of nonprofit financial experience, according to an AAO press release.
The search committee is led by Barbara Caffery, OD, PhD, FAAO, (former AAO President); and includes Susan Cotter, OD, MS, FAAO; Stacey Coulter, DO, MS, FAAO; Joseph Shovlin, DO, FAAO; Jennifer Coyle, DO, MS, FAAO; and Andrew Mick, DO, FAAO.
AAO President Timothy McMahon, OD, FAAO, said it was essential that the committee bring in a highly qualified individual with the vision and experience the role requires.
“They must be able to work collaboratively with the board and staff to provide the quality programming, ongoing education, leadership development, and member services that our fellows have come to expect,” McMahon said in the press release.
The committee issued a request for proposals (RFP) from qualified research firms.
