Dr. Mohammad Barkindo, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) received a special award at the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) 2022 for his achievements.
This is contained in a statement issued by OPEC on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt and obtained by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja. He said Barkindo received the award at a high profile gala dinner hosted by EGYPS 2022 in Cairo on Monday to Wednesday.
In his acceptance speech, Barkindo praised the exemplary leadership and vision of Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Tarek El-Molla, the country’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The Secretary General congratulated them for successfully hosting the fifth edition of the event. “It has been the honor of a lifetime for me to serve as Secretary General of OPEC. I consider myself lucky to have witnessed many historic moments and events over the past six years.
“The experience has confirmed to me, more than ever before, that nothing can be accomplished without teamwork,” Barkindo said. He noted that OPEC had helped the oil industry navigate rough waters over the past six years and taken steps that ensured the industry’s survival.
“It was really a collective effort; the combined work of our member countries, their oil or energy ministers and ministries, their capable staff and teams,” Barkindo said. Barkindo will complete his second successful term as OPEC secretary general in August.
