Nigeria: Former Opec scribe urges host communities to view investors as partners

A former Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), King Edmund Daukoru, has urged host oil communities to support investors and companies in their field and refrain from burdening them with onerous demands.

Emphasizing that this will enable them to thrive in a sustainable manner, the Amayanabo of Nembe Kingdom in Bayelsa State expressed their delight that the interventions of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) are transforming Bayelsa State into a a haven.

Daukoru spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for a 64,000 liters per day lubricant blending plant being developed in Gbarain, Bayelsa State by ERASKON Nigerian Limited in partnership with NCDMB.

The former group chief executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), said the council was redefining the oil and gas industry and changing its reputation of being merely a base for the export of raw materials, with no industrial capacity .

He implied that the number of derivatives and ties to the oil industry was limitless and that they created opportunities for employment and economic advancement in politics.

He thanked the NCDMB for the effective implementation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act (NOGICD) and the huge impact it has had on the economy.

Some of them, according to an NCDMB statement, include the 12,000 barrel per day (bpd) Azikel Modular Refinery and the 2,000 bpd Atlantic Modular Refinery, Rungas’ composite LPG cylinder manufacturing plant in Polaku. , the Emeyal-1 Oil and Gas Industrial Park and the Council’s 17-story Headquarters building.

Others are the partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, for the development of a 10,000 metric ton per day methanol production plant in Brass and the development of the Brass Island shipyard to house the repair and ship maintenance.

In addition, NLNG carriers and the development of an onshore petroleum products terminal in Brass, Bayelsa State, the NCDMB pointed out, as well as the construction of the NLNG Oil and Gas Museum and Research Centre. In his remarks, NCDMB Executive Secretary Simbi Wabote explained that the partnership with ERASKON is in line with the board’s mandate to develop local manufacturing capacity, provide employment opportunities and increase the local content in the Nigerian oil and gas industry and linkage sectors. .
