NTPC invites EoI to set up 1 GW battery storage system
“Any Indian / global company / its consortium / affiliates / representatives are welcome to submit an EoI for the establishment of 1000 MWh of grid-wide BESS in NTPC power plants in India,” said the call for ‘offers launched on June 26, 2021.
The call for tenders notice indicates that this expression of interest (EoI) aims to assess the marketing prospects of the implementation of BESS at the level of the network.
After identifying candidates through EoI, Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to undertake projects in multiple NTPC factories will be invited separately for facility set-up and scalable model for other additional requirements.
The deadline for submitting EoIs is August 10, 2021. The EoI response will be opened the next day.
NTPC produces around 300 billion units of electricity per year through its group of gas, coal, hydropower and renewable energy power plants with a capacity of over 65 GW spread across the country.
NTPC projects a target capacity of 130 GW, including a RE target capacity of 60 GW by 2032.
NTPC’s conventional fleet will increasingly need to operate flexibly to support the grid, as the penetration of VREs (Variable Renewable Energies) steadily increases in the Indian power system as part of its policy initiative to increase its share of capacity. installed from non-fossil energy sources by 2030. and beyond.
It is therefore advisable to continue BESS at the scale of the grid, according to the opinion.
