The OPEC+ group of nations does not intend to take a position against the Russian Federation regarding the conflict in Ukraine. America, Japan, the United Kingdom and several European Union countries have tried to exert pressure on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – and other major OPEC countries – but in vain. Therefore, OPEC+ countries refuse to conform to G-7 countries that only have anti-Russian Federation geopolitical interests.
America, Japan, the United Kingdom and other countries of the European Union have sought to persuade OPEC countries to respect their geopolitical position. However, the OPEC group of nations refrains from the anti-Russian Federation stance adopted by the G-7 nations.
Al-Monitor reports, “The UAE’s energy chief has approved an agreement between the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Russia. Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei said the war in Ukraine should not affect the oil giants’ plans.
CNBC Reporting, “The United States, Europe and Japan have called on oil-producing countries to do more to combat record prices amid the war in Ukraine and ongoing supply shortages.”
UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei, regarding Iran and Venezuela – and knowing that the UAE and Iran have wildly different visions of the region – said: “Whatever we do as a country when it comes to production, it should always stay out of politics. We have two countries under sanction and we have managed to produce.
He continued, “Russia is an important member and leaving politics aside, this volume is needed today, and unless someone wants to bring in 10 million barrels, we don’t see anyone being able to replace the Russian . [production].”
National News (UAE) reports, “Russia is the world’s second largest energy exporter. It accounts for around 10% of global energy production, including 17% of its natural gas and 12% of its oil. Along with Saudi Arabia, he leads the 23-member OPEC+ alliance of oil producers.
India and Quad Group (America, Australia, India and Japan)
America, Australia and Japan from the Quad group have also exerted extreme pressure on India to condemn the role of the Russian Federation in the Ukraine crisis. However, like the major Gulf powers in OPEC, India refused to bow to strong pressure from America, Australia and Japan at the recent Quad meeting – and when the leader of Japan visited India. Therefore, like Mexico in NAFTA also refusing to pander to the whims of America and Canada over sanctions, India and OPEC countries – like the vast majority of countries in Africa, Asia and South America – will all continue to trade with the Russian Federation. despite the obstacles put in their way by the international intimidation of the G-7.
Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, reminded the Quad Group that the Indo-Pacific region is the focus and not the Russian Federation. modi said, “…the Quad must remain focused on its core objectives of promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”
The Modern Tokyo Times recently reported, “BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and RIC (Russia, India and China group) enable the construction of important bridges between China, India and the Russian Federation – despite tensions between China and India over border issues. The Russian Federation is also blessed with extremely cordial relations with all Central Asian nations and Iran – hence, political elites in Moscow are using this to encourage regional stability. Moreover, the Russian Federation is a trusted friend of India and provides India with advanced military technology regardless of China’s concerns.
Unlike Japan, where America dominates the military and internal affairs of this country, the nation of India is a powerful independent nation that refuses to bend to the whims of any nation. India and the Russian Federation also enjoy cordial relations. India, therefore, hopes for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis that takes into account the interests of both nations and the wider community – not just the vested interests of the G-7 countries.
