OPEC Secretary General visits Emirate of Fujairah and meets with its ruler

Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, September 22, 2021 – OPEC Secretary General HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo visited the Emirate of Fujairah as part of his mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During the visit, the Secretary General visited His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, ruler of Fujairah and member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates. He also visited the headquarters of the Fujairah oil industry zone and the port of the emirate. He also attended a launching ceremony for the second phase of the Fujairah storage complex.

During his meeting with Sheikh Hamad, the Secretary General congratulated the Sheikh on his 47th year as a member of the Supreme and Sovereign Council of Fujairah.

“His exemplary leadership has brought tremendous economic, social and educational progress to Fujairah, and his forward-looking strategic thinking has enabled Fujairah to become one of the main driving forces of the emirate’s economy,” said Barkindo.

Barkindo also praised the efforts to transform the port of Fujairah into a leading hub for bunkering, oil storage and commercial activities.

The Secretary-General highlighted the efforts made by the 23 oil-producing countries of the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) in the interest of the stability of the oil market, stressing the leading and instrumental role played by the United Arab Emirates and their Minister of Energy and Infrastructures, HE Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei.

OPEC is deeply indebted to the UAE for the leading role it has played and continues to play in OPEC and DoC affairs, Barkindo said.

During the ceremony, the Secretary General praised the achievements of Brooge Petroleum and Gas Investment Company (BPGIC), noting that the company’s investment demonstrates a fundamental commitment to innovate and develop this very important industry.

He praised the efforts made in the development of the port, which he said helped strengthen the activities of the oil and gas industry. He also said they had improved the storage capacities, services and facilities offered to investors in the region.

Barkindo also stressed that continued investment at an adequate level is needed throughout the supply chain to meet the growing demand for oil over the coming decades, noting that this will support lasting stability in the global oil market. oil and avoid volatility.

The secretary general attended the opening session of Gastech 2021 in the emirate of Dubai yesterday, where he shared a scene with Minister Al Mazrouei, among others.
