Plans for two recreational facilities will see current use retained
Existing uses will be protected and other sporting and recreational opportunities will be explored through a request for proposals process for two community facilities.
Willoughby City Council has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) document for the sites of Willoughby Park Bowling Club and Chatswood Croquet Club.
Both venues have open spaces and clubhouse facilities, which have the potential to support expanded sports and recreational offerings at the community level.
The Willoughby Park Bowling Club site (pictured right) is located at the southern end of Willoughby Park.
It contains three bowling greens (two currently in use), a clubhouse with bar, a residential unit, commercial kitchen facilities, changing rooms and toilets and off-site public parking (35 spaces)
The Chatswood Croquet Club site (pictured below) is located at 699A Pacific Highway, Chatswood. It contains three croquet courts, two lawn tennis courts, a clubhouse, and a small maintenance shed.
The RFP makes it clear that any additional or expanded offerings at the above venues must retain and expand the existing uses of bowling and croquet.
This initiative aligns with a number of priorities of the Our Future Willoughby 2032 Community Strategic Plan recently adopted by Council, including:
- Create leisure spaces for all
- Promote an active and healthy lifestyle
- Create pleasant places to live and enjoy them
- Balancing population growth and development with quality of life; and
- Creatively activating local spaces
