HONOLULU — The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) issued a tender in October for a contractor to provide tourism destination branding and marketing services in the United States, Hawaii’s largest visitor market , effective January 1, 2022. At the end of a multi-month process, an initial award was revoked in December by DBEDT director Mike McCartney, who, as head of the purchasing agency, oversees all purchases.

“The continental United States is the largest source of visitors to Hawaii, which makes the effective management of this market one of our most important efforts to support our state’s economy,” said the director McCartney. “We have determined that the solicitation did not include consideration of all factors important to the agency, so it is in the best interest of the State of Hawaii to cancel the offer and solicit to again the RFP. We are re-starting the process to find a definitive winning proposal to move forward in the best interests of the State of Hawaii. “
